Demotivating a (Good) Programmer

lbrandy.com » Blog Archive » Demotivating a (Good) Programmer

"And if, by chance, you are a boss interested in motivating your smart programmers, perhaps there’s a lesson here, too. High salaries are nice. So are bean bag chairs. So are dual monitors and offices with closable doors. These things are ephemeral, though. If you don’t have him working on the core functionality of your product, with tons of users, and an endless supply of difficult problems, all of the games of ping pong in the world won’t help.So next time you want to try to emulate Google’s environment, ask yourself what really is the environment? Is it really the techno-colored bean bag chairs?"

Virtua (até) 4 Mega???

Fato Interessante

Propaganda (enganosa?)

<!--break-->

Nome correto do produto: Virtua 400-4000kbps

DNS no Virtua: A saga continua

Saga do DNS no Virtua (parte 1).

Fica a dica.

Test your web design in different browsers

When you're working on web stuff you certainly will face problems with some browsers rendering your website in a different way than all others in the world. That sucks, but it does happen.

I used to use this interesting site/service IENetRenderer (http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/) to see how my sites where rendered on Internet Explorer, as I only have linux boxes.

But today I found an even more interesting (really a lot more!) site/service: http://browsershots.org/. It can give you screenshots from several browsers in several operating systems. That is really awesome!

"What is Browsershots? Browsershots makes screenshots of your web design in different browsers. It is a free open-source online service created by Johann C. Rocholl. When you submit your web address, it will be added to the job queue. A number of distributed computers will open your website in their browser. Then they will make screenshots and upload them to the central server here."

I used this service on a website I just put online (http://www.leitenapista.com.br, portuguese only). It is Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict, valid CSS 2.1 and renders OK on 37 of 38 I got screenshots from. The only one that failed to render it correctly was Internet Explorer 8.

Você precisa saber o MAC do modem.

Canola plugin: FM Radio

As last week INdT released the first open source plugin for canola, I decided to check it out and write something based on that. It was too complex to start, but with Morpheuz help I could do it.

I have a n800, and I like to listen FM radio sometimes, so I decided to write a plugin for that. Later I figured out that the other devices (770 and n810) don't have FM receiver, so it will be n800 only. Anyway, it's being fun and useful for me, and that's why I'm doing it.

It's still very basic on features, but use to work :) and It was very good to learn how to develop a canola plugin.

I'll release the code soon and that may help others to write their own plugins.

For now check the video:

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

var so = new
SWFObject('https://media.dreamhost.com/mediaplayer.swf','mpl','320','240','8');
so.addParam('allowscriptaccess','always');
so.addParam('allowfullscreen','true');
so.addVariable('height','240');
so.addVariable('width','320');
so.addVariable('file','http://mfbernardes.com/canola/canola-radio_1.flv');
so.write('mov08355_320x240.flv');
